Sense of humor, height, freckles, muscles, taste in movies — all of these are valid preferences. Calling someone out for any form of racism is a remarkably quick way to see tempers flare. When white people in particular hear accusations of racism, hackles rise instantly. By and large, the majority of people view racism as violent or pointedly malicious acts, like calling someone the N-word or supporting Jim Crow laws. As a black woman, I could never be in a relationship with someone who didn't feel comfortable talking about race and culture. I'm an Aboriginal woman from a small regional town in Western Australia. When I was younger, dating was like a mix of Tinder and ancestry. You had to be careful not to date someone that you could be related to. Eventually I did date guys who weren't Indigenous, which was exciting and new but not always a pleasant experience.
We live in the year and people still harbor feelings of hate for others based upon race. Blacks, Whites and Asians and Hispanics. Easily angered with the urge to either be or pretend to be thugs and commonly very dangerous regardless of age, profession, or upbringing. Face it, black guys are just not safe.
